Lulo is one of the most popular fruits in Colombia and yet it is scarcely known outside the country. Lulo epitomises Colombia’s biodiversity and has huge potential for expansion.
Our Lulo is sourced from the Eje Cafetero (Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío), the heart of Colombia’s coffee region high up in the Andes.
The farmers developed lulo cultivation to diversify into a niche, added-value market.
This is particularly important in a country where smallholder farming, and coffee in particular, has been under pressure from cheaper imports and increased costs of fertilisers and other inputs.
Lulo (green leafy bushes) can grow between coffee (small bushes with orange tinge) and plantains or bananas (taller plants), which are subject to the vagaries of global commodity markets.
The story behind our fruit is the character – or berraquera – of those who produce it. Did you see the smiling faces in the seeds of the Lulo motif?
With your custom, we can realise more potential!
