Our Mora is sourced from Eastern Antioquia, which was affected by the armed conflict. However with the assistance of local organisations, such as Fundación El Cinco (The Five Foundation), the Mora farmers have more than quintupled their income.
Watch the story of the Fruqueña Project (Fruta Pequeña Antioqueña: Small Fruit in Antioquia) to see how they have overcome the difficulties and are transforming their region. The Fruqueña video has English subtitles.
Fundación El Cinco sponsored 66 of the next generation of the Mora families to take a year’s course in Agriculture. A group of them set up their own organisation, Asolideragro, to develop more projects. They have skyped some of our customers.
The Mora farmers work with the Regional Strategy for Commercialisation (Estrategia Regional de Comercialisación or ECR) of el Oriente Antioqueño (Eastern Antioquia) with the support of Corporación ProdePaz, Programa Desarrollo para la Paz (Development Programme for Peace). This work is part of the Second Peace Laboratory, a programme of solidarity financed by the EU in el Oriente Antioqueño and two other regions of Colombia.
It is our privilege to import some fruits of this initiative, bringing the investment full circle.
Month of the Farmer June 2016 (Mes del Campesino)
A contribution was sent to Asolideragro, an association of young fruit farmers, who used this to buy new boots and gloves for planting and for harvesting the Moras (red blackberries). A free draw was made to select the recipients. They were delighted to have been remembered on their special month by customers on the other side of the Atlantic!
